Gritty drama written and directed by Barbara Loden in which she also stars as the titular character. Unhappy and directionless, Wanda divorces her husband, relinquishes her rights to her children and loses her job. A series of encounters with cruel and dangerous men follow and, after going to a bar and mistaking robber Norman Dennis (Michael Higgins) for the bartender, she goes on the run with him until an ill-advised bank robbery ends in a shootout.
For Wanda though, there is no easy escape from her bleak existence.
