Alan Ladd stars in this wartime tale of a paratrooper with a secret past who takes part in a daring raid behind enemy lines. Resigning from the US military after he caused the death of a fellow officer in a flying accident, Canada McKendrick (Ladd) enlists as a paratrooper in England, claiming to be a Canadian to disguise his past. Despite suspicions from commanding officer Major Snow (Leo Genn), McKendrick's fighting skills soon lead him to be recruited for a raid on a German radar station.
But when Major Snow is wounded in the heat of battle, McKendrick is forced to assume command and call on all of his previous experience to bring his comrades back home.
