Seven + Mary is Rainbow Kitten Surprise's 2016 debut full-length (reissued on Elektra in 2019), pairing their Seven LP with an acoustic EP called Mary. Together, they clock in at just under 40 minutes across 11 tracks.
Thematically it's RKS at their most emotionally raw - melancholy, loss, infidelity, and the tension between order and chaos run throughout. The songwriting is deceptively simple on the surface, but the lyricism is dense with wordplay and imagery. Titles like "Fail!," "Devil Like Me," and "Shameful Company" give you the mood: introspective, a little bruised, but never mopey. The standouts are "Devil Like Me" (fan favorite, widely considered the emotional centerpiece), "First Class," and the title track "Seven," which uses a countdown structure as a metaphor for romantic dissolution. The Mary acoustic side is more stripped-down and contemplative - beautiful but sparse, and best taken as a mood piece rather than a standalone statement.
