The Outer Banks, releasing via Abstract Logix, finds Hanson surrounded by similarly committed improvisers, including guitarist Charlie Hunter, drummer Jeff Sipe, keyboardist Bill Stevens, guitarist Isaac Hadden, bassist John Daniel Ray, and drummer Calvin Napper. Recorded live at Ovation Sound in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with very minimal overdubs, the album is both polished and crackling, pulling jazz, funk, classical, and ambient influences into a coherent, frequently surprising tapestry.
