Ryûnosuke Kamiki stars in this Japanese sci-fi action thriller written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. Koichi Shikishima (Kamiki) is a former kamikaze pilot who survived the war by aborting his suicide mission. When he is confronted with the might of Godzilla for the first time, he freezes, which compounds his feelings of guilt and cowardice.

As Japan struggles to recover from the devastation of the war, Koichi finds some measure of peace with Noriko (Minami Hamabe), who has rescued an orphaned baby girl. Wanting to provide for them, Koichi accepts a dangerous job clearing mines from the waters outside Tokyo, until Godzilla returns. Now even more formidable and able to immediately regenerate from injury after having been bathed in radiation from the nuclear test in 1946, Godzilla proceeds to lay waste to Tokyo.

As a group of civilians come together to stop Godzilla, will Koichi now be able to redeem himself?
