Years after Clear Lake, WI was evacuated, four individuals return in search of clues about their past. In 1994, a mysterious virus appeared in Clear Lake. As panic spread, a local priest (Michael Madsen) convinced a group of high school students that the locals were being punished by God. It was their job, he claimed, to apprehend the worst sinners, and ensure they suffered for their transgressions. When health officials arrived to investigate, they discovered that 13 of the locals had vanished and the townspeople had abandoned their homes for fear of getting infected. For 15 years, the town sat still and completely unoccupied. Now, a documentary filmmaker has convinced those former students to return to Clear Lake, and shed light on the unsolved mystery. The deeper they dig for answers about Clear Lake's mysterious past, the more they risk.
