CASTLEBEAT is the lo-fi indie rock project of 32-year-old half-Korean, half-Spanish Josh Hwang, also founder of indie label Spirit Goth. His sound is a culmination of gripping pop hooks & cassette aesthetics delivered with dreamy, melancholic overtones often leaving listeners with a sense of false nostalgia. This album, CASTLEBEAT II, is a 10-year homage to the self-titled 2016 debut of the project, which garnered great attention in the underground indie scene. It's a reflective reconnection with the early CASTLEBEAT sound, revisited with the growth and perspective Hwang has gained over the past decade. Some of the songs trace back to ideas and sound textures that first appeared on the debut, reworked and re-contextualized rather than recreated. This record is about taking a moment to recount a chapter before moving forward.
