Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr star as a playboy and a nightclub singer who embark on a shipboard romance and eventually fall completely in love with each other. They decide to make a pact that when they arrive back at their separate homes, they will end their respective relationships, and rendezvous in six months' time at the top of the Empire State Building. The course of true love, however, never does run smoothly.
