Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara star in this US drama written and directed by David Lowery. The film follows a married couple in disagreement over whether or not to move away from their modest home in rural Texas. When the husband then suddenly dies in a car accident, his wife is left alone in the house as she grieves.
Returning home as a ghost draped in a white sheet, the husband desperately tries to reconnect with his wife as she contemplates what to do next, but becomes increasingly frustrated with his inability to interact meaningfully with the physical world. After his wife eventually decides to move on, the husband remains stranded in the moment, silently watching over the house as a new family moves in.
