Although a nice restored version of this film came out on Blu-ray recently, we have done further restoration to the color, which we feel improves the overall viewing experience. The setting is a German-controlled settlement in East Africa in the early 20th Century. Hersholt plays a nefarious businessman trying to manipulate the lives of those around him. Watch for the great scene toward the end of the film when he stumbles through the jungle, fleeing from hundreds of natives who thirst for revenge. The climactic native uprising is so lavish and broad in scope that it's easily as good as anything similar from a major studio production. Color, from 35mm.
