Michael Keaton reprises his eponymous role in this sequel to the 1988 dark comedy. Following the death of her father, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) returns to Winter River with her mother Delia (Catherine O'Hara) and estranged daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega). Although she feels like she doesn't fit in with her family, Astrid discovers that she has inherited her mother's powers of being able to see and speak to the dead.
She soon finds herself summoning Beetlejuice after she is lured to the afterlife by Jeremy (Arthur Conti), to whom she has taken a shine. When Lydia learns that Jeremy died following a police chase after he killed his parents, she reluctantly seeks Beetlejuice's help in saving her daughter. The cast also includes Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci.
