These texts are supplemented by previously published writings, evoking periods when it was impossible to write (the concentration camp or the violence in Algeria, for example). Through these fragments, the main stages in Germaine Tillion's life are recounted (her research among the Chaouias in Kabylia, her actions in the Resistance, her imprisonment at La Sante and then Fresnes, her deportation to Ravensbruck, her achievements and her struggles, particularly against torture, during the Algerian war).
