George Abbott and Stanley Donen co-direct this musical comedy adapted from the Broadway show. Ageing baseball fan Joe Boyd (Robert Shafer) agrees to sell his soul to the devil, who is disguised as a conman called Applegate (Ray Walston), in return for letting his team beat the New York Yankees. Applegate gives him the chance to make it happen by granting him a year in the athletic young body of Joe Hardy (Tab Hunter), but things don't go entirely to plan...
